Interior Faux Stone Feature Walls

Interior Faux Stone Feature Walls — Bespoke Artisan Stone Effects Across the UK

Bring the raw beauty of natural stone into your home or commercial space — without the weight, cost, or complexity of real masonry. Primordial Stone are specialist faux stone artisans based in Portsmouth, Hampshire, delivering stunning hand-crafted interior stone feature walls to clients across the UK. With over 30 years of combined experience in the building trade and 5 years working together as a dedicated stone effects team, we create walls that don't just look extraordinary — they last.

What Is a Faux Stone Feature Wall?

A faux stone feature wall replicates the look, texture, and depth of natural stone using advanced sculpting and rendering techniques applied to EPS/XPS polystyrene foam or directly to your existing wall surface. The result is visually indistinguishable from real stone — but dramatically lighter, more cost-effective, and fully customisable to your space.

Whether you're after a dramatic slate-grey cliff face behind your media wall, a warm rustic fieldstone effect in your hallway, or a refined stacked limestone finish in a restaurant or hotel reception, Primordial Stone crafts each wall individually to your brief.

Our Interior Faux Stone Process

Every Primordial Stone feature wall is built using a tried-and-tested method refined across hundreds of projects:

1. Consultation & Design

We start with a free consultation — in person across Hampshire, Portsmouth, and the South Coast, or remotely anywhere in the UK. We discuss your style, space dimensions, colour palette, and budget to produce a detailed proposal and visual reference.

2. Material Preparation

For interior installations, we typically work with high-density XPS polystyrene foam sheets as our base material. These are rigid, moisture-resistant, and incredibly lightweight — meaning no structural modifications are needed to your walls, even for large installations.

3. Hand Carving & Sculpting

Using specialist carving tools, wire brushes, and heat-forming techniques, our craftsmen hand-sculpt each stone face, joint, crack, and surface variation directly into the foam. No two panels are identical — just like real stone. This stage is where decades of building trade experience makes all the difference.

4. Render Coating

The sculpted foam is coated with a PVA bonding primer, followed by a fibreglass mesh-reinforced base render, then a flexible acrylic top coat render. This creates a hard, durable surface that is impact-resistant and long-lasting — not a thin theatrical finish, but a proper trade-quality coating.

5. Colouring & Finishing

Multiple-layer pigment washes are applied by hand — dark tones pressed deep into joints and recesses, mid-tones rolled across the stone face, and lighter shades dry-brushed across raised ridges. This three-layer technique gives authentic depth and dimensionality that paint alone cannot achieve.

6. Professional Installation

Panels are installed on-site using specialist construction adhesive, seamlessly joined and finished. We leave your space clean, complete, and ready to photograph.

Interior Faux Stone Feature Walls — FAQs

How long does an interior faux stone wall take?

A typical residential feature wall (4–6m²) takes 2–3 days including carving, rendering, and finishing. Larger commercial installations are scoped individually.

Is a faux stone wall suitable for bathrooms?

Yes — we use moisture-resistant render coatings and fully seal all panels, making them suitable for bathrooms, wet rooms, and shower surrounds.

How durable is the finish?

Our render-coated panels are extremely durable — hard, impact-resistant, and fade-resistant. They are not a wallpaper or a sticker; they are a permanent architectural finish.

Can it be painted or changed later?

Yes. The finished surface accepts standard masonry paint if you ever want to update the colour scheme in future.

Do I need to move furniture or clear the room?

We ask clients to clear the wall area and any furniture within 1.5 metres. We protect floors and adjacent surfaces throughout installation.

What areas do you cover?

We are based in Portsmouth, Hampshire but work on projects across the whole of the UK. Travel costs are included in your quotation.
